Vizcaya Bridge


A photographic essay of Vizcaya Bridge, Bilbao, Spain

Crossing the Ibaizabal / Nervión river every couple of minutes – 24 x7, the Vizcaya Bridge opened on 16 June 1893 and has operated continuously since it opened, apart from a brief period during the Spanish Civil War.

Vizcaya Bridge, the world’s oldest transporter bridge was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2006.

Commonly known as Puente Colgante, it is called  Bizkaiko Zubia in Basque and Puente de Vizcaya in Spanish
